Current Goings-on's

STARGAZERS

Oh, those meteor showers!  If you’ve never stayed up into the wee hours to watch the Perseids you’ve missed out.  This year the Perseids hit their peak on August 13th, which means staying up late Saturday (the 12th) night. These are the most famous of meteor showers among amateur star gazers. (The complete year-round Meteor Shower Calendar can be found on Gary Kronk’s website.)

We like to grab a snack, a sleeping bag, lawn chair, or big blanket, and a pillow, and head down to the pastures to get the best seats in the house. Since the full moon is on the 9th this year, the visibility for sightings should be pretty good. The activity seems to peak during the wee hours, so bring someone you love to talk to and enjoy the show with. How can you beat sharing a star show and conversation with someone you really like?  Doesn’t get much better than that, now, does it?

MUSIC LOVERS

A little note of sadness: The Knowlton Riverfest has been cancelled for this year… basically because the fest is produced totally through volunteerism, and the dedicated people who do it each year have decided to take a well-deserved rest. They work diligently to bring us the very best in world music and do a more-than-respectable job. Although we’ll really miss them this year, BOTM wishes all involved in the Riverfest the very best of the seasons, and will keep our fingers crossed that they will return next year, leaner and meaner. Until then… we’ll miss you, Riverfest.

COTA Jazz Festival. This is one of the best Jazz Festivals around, bar none. It always presents the most diversified, talented, and professional musicians that one could ever hope for in a three-day festival. For those of you who stay consecutive nights at BOTM, we offer a discount to offset the price of your admission.

MOVIE BUFFS

Our wonderful little independently-owned film house, the Pocono Cinema (which we call “The Artsy-Fartsy” Theatre), is guaranteed to be running something of interest. These are the more progressive films, and standard fare are espressos, lattes, cappuccinos, popcorn with REAL butter (really), desserts, candies, and art exhibits. There is also an array of board games to play while awaiting your showing. This is the best way to mellow out, in my book. You can find out what is/will be playing while you are here. Should you long for a nice, relaxing movie, or if your plans get “rained out”, be sure to catch this experience.

Adventures & Explorations...

If you brought your horse, riding in the early morning around here is just about as close to your maker as you’ll ever get while you’re on earth. Bet your horse will love the change of scenery, too.

If riding is not in your plan, then feel free to just grab a porch rocker…or…if you feel so good you can’t sit still, then why not discover another side of yourself while at the Back o’ the Moon?

Feeling adventurous?

Canoe, kayak, or raft the Delaware River  See Earth the way we see it (look down from the gondola of a balloon!)  Downhill, snowboard, or tube the slopes at one of the nearby ski resorts, or  Cross-country or snowshoe the National Park’s marked trails. Then there’s our personal BOTM favorite (non-horse) adventure: gear up and climb the face of one of the surrounding mountains.

Maybe you like the Wild Life: How about

“Up Close and Personal” with a magnificent wolf?

or visit  local wild life on the Lehigh Animal Preserve and Zoo!

Now, If you’re feeling more like

“being at one” try a meditation walk in the

Celtic Megalith Park at Columcille  Hike the Appalachian Trail, or  fish some of the best trout streams in the Eastern US (we can steer you to the area's fly-fishing “gurus”).

Want to explore your feminine side? Then shop ‘til you drop, at The Crossings® (outlet heaven), or visit the Moravian Book Shoppe® in Historic Bethlehem.

If local color and art are calling your name: Tour the Crayola® Factory in the romantic river town of Easton, follow the  life and  works  of famous illustrator, Frank Frazetta (whose “Conan the Great” gave “Gov” Schwarzenegger his vehicle to fame), or get in touch with your Michelangelo side with personalized art instruction from noted area artist; James Gloria.

Wind down the evening and...

Take in the Jazz at the world-famous Deer Head Inn

— and— any time of day or night…(our personal favorite): weed our garden (please).
